How to lighten up your WoW login screen

The WoW login screen is quite heavy, compared to the WoW Classic one. But there is a way to lighten it up.

This is particularly useful if you are a WoW dev and constantly close and reopen your WoW client.

So if you want a lighter login screen that uses fewer computer-resources, or if you are just a nostalgic about WoW Classic, you can:

  • download the file patch-a.mpq.zip
  • unzip patch-a.mpq
  • move it inside the Data folder of your World of Warcraft client

Now even if you are using an expansion like Wrath of The Lich King (3.3.5a), your WoW login screen will be lighter and will look like the WoW 1.x one.

Even the music will be the WoW Classic one…. oohhhh good old times!
